Press Release
Oracle Accelerates Data Insights for Retailers with Oracle Digital Assistant Integration of Core Retail Technology with Conversational AI Powers Targeted and Contextual Offers that Engage Customers and Drive Results

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 15, 2018

Enabling retailers to build personalized customer experiences as well as voice-enabled assistants to help employees work smarter and more productively, Oracle Retail solutions are now integrated with Oracle Digital Assistant. Together, these offerings empower retailers to find answers to critical business questions such as, "What's the current margin on our new BOGO offer for trendsetters?" faster than ever before.

Announced at Oracle OpenWorld 2018, Oracle Digital Assistant leverages artificial-intelligence (AI) to understand context, derive intent, and identify and learn user behaviors and patterns to automate routine tasks proactively on behalf of the user. By integrating the technology with Oracle Retail Offer Optimization Cloud Service, analysts can easily streamline location-specific sales forecasting, promotional deployment and performance, approval automation and target prioritization.

To see these technologies in action, visit: https://youtu.be/UcDTQa7Ff-w.

"Most retailers think about conversational AI in the context of the store or e-commerce, however, retailers can now apply conversational AI to their core operations', via voice or text, to accelerate productivity and optimize processes," said Mike Webster, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Retail. "Smart digital interactions are an integral part of our everyday life as we query Alexa, Google Home and Siri for recommendations. This latest integration between Oracle Digital Assistant and Oracle Retail Offer Optimization Cloud Service brings the power and simplicity of voice to retail operations, speeding time to insight and action."

Built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle Digital Assistant goes well beyond standard chatbots available today that provide simple, single skilled, linear responses. By applying AI for natural language processing (NLP), natural language understanding (NLU) and machine learning (ML), Oracle is in a uniquely positioned to leverage its breadth and depth in enterprise applications to offer a digital assistant that can truly span the enterprise.

"Going forward digital assistants will transform how merchants, planners, and marketers collaborate, engage their company's information assets, and how they work," said Greg Girard, program director of intelligent product merchandising and marketing, IDC Retail Insights. "As digital assistants become more conversationally and analytically skillful and more aware of their users' intent and context we'll see more incisive decisions, made quicker, to deliver better business outcomes. Retailers should bring digital assistants into their digital transformation planning assumptions now."

In April, Oracle launched the next generation of promotion, markdown and offer optimization capabilities as a cloud service with the launch of Oracle Retail Offer Optimization Cloud Service. With these new updates retailers can analyze promotion and pricing decisions for the entire product lifecycle while providing consumers with targeted and contextual offers.

Cyta Calls on Oracle to Drive Digital Transformation

Wed, 2018-11-14 07:00
Press Release
Cyta Calls on Oracle to Drive Digital Transformation Cyprus' telecommunications leader to implement Oracle’s concept to cash to care solution to speed service launches, and foster agile billing and efficient service fulfillment

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 14, 2018

The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority ("Cyta"), the leading provider of integrated electronic communications services in Cyprus, has selected the Oracle Rapid Offer Design and Order Delivery (RODOD) solution to provide a modern, digital business experience for their customers, employees and partners.

Cyta, a semi-governmental organization, provides a wide range of services and facilities for voice and data applications in both fixed and mobile telephony. The company continues to innovate to meet the ever-growing needs of its customers for new value-added content and multimedia services. For example, Cyta recently secured the audio-visual rights to the FA Premier League for Cyprus, for the football seasons 2019-2022.

"We chose Oracle for the breadth, maturity and completeness of its solution, its proven track record of helping CSPs achieve digital transformation, and the continuous innovation being delivered in Oracle Cloud, said Mr Chrysis Phiniotis, Cyta’s CTIO. "As a result, we will be positioned to achieve measurable results in our highest priority areas, including faster offer time to market, shorter cycle times, improved operational efficiencies and improved Net Promoter Scores."

After identifying a wide range of shortcomings in its legacy business support systems (BSS), including slow-time to market for new offers, a fragmented offer design process, and a lack of digital customer engagement, Cyta knew it needed a modern approach. As part of its digital transformation efforts, Cyta will implement Oracle's RODOD solution together with Oracle’s Customer Experience (CX) solution for communications.

With these solutions, the company will be able to quickly introduce new offers, execute agile marketing and sales campaigns, acquire and engage customers with services that are relevant and timely, efficiently deliver and flexibly monetize those services and empower their customers with information, insights and innovations.

"CSPs are recognizing the fast, powerful impact that a digital transformation can have in modernizing front office operations," said Doug Suriano, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Communications. "Cyta employees will be able to provide their customers with a more effective, modern engagement for buying, order delivery, subscription monetization and personalized usage experience."

RODOD is part of Oracle Communications, which provides integrated communications and cloud solutions for Service Providers and Enterprises to accelerate their digital transformation journey in a communications-driven world from network evolution to digital business to customer experience. www.oracle.com/communications.

Oracle Challenger Series to Return to Newport Beach, Indian Wells in 2019

Wed, 2018-11-14 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Challenger Series to Return to Newport Beach, Indian Wells in 2019 Series Began in Chicago, Now in Houston and Culminates in Southern California

Indian Wells, Calif.—Nov 14, 2018

The Oracle Challenger Series announced today that it will be returning to Southern California for two events in early 2019, to be held at the Newport Beach Tennis Club on January 21-27, 2019 and at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on February 25 - March 3, 2019.

The Oracle Challenger Series launched earlier this year with inaugural events in Newport Beach and Indian Wells. Taylor Fritz and Danielle Collins captured the titles in Newport Beach, while Sara Errani and Martin Klizan triumphed in Indian Wells. The Series, which has a mission of providing new opportunities for up-and-coming American tennis players to secure both ranking points and prize money, restarted earlier this year, expanding to include events in Chicago (September 2-9) and now Houston (Nov. 10-18).

The Newport Beach and Indian Wells tournaments will conclude the 2018-2019 Series, and be instrumental in determining which two American male and female players receive wild cards into their respective singles main draws at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open. The two American women and two American men who accumulate the most points over the course of the four events in the Series will be awarded the wild cards into the largest ATP World Tour and WTA combined two-week event in the world, held annually at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Last year, Bradley Klahn, Reilly Opelka, Amanda Anisimova and Collins earned the wild cards. Collins and Anisimova made the most of the opportunity as they each reached the Round of 16, the best performances of their professional careers to date.

“Oracle launched the Challenger Series to help more tennis players compete at a high level here in the United States,’’ said Oracle CEO Mark Hurd. “We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from players and fans, and Oracle is committed to the Series in 2019. Newport Beach and Indian Wells are terrific venues for winter tennis. We’d love to see a big turnout from fans.’’

Each tournament in the Series is a joint ATP Challenger Tour/WTA 125K Series event and pays equal prize money ($150,000 per Tour) for a total of $300,000. All Oracle Challenger Series tournaments are free and open to the public.

Oracle Cloud Unveils New HPC Offerings to Support Mission Critical Workloads

Mon, 2018-11-12 08:00
Press Release
Oracle Cloud Unveils New HPC Offerings to Support Mission Critical Workloads Oracle now provides a complete set of solutions for any high performance computing workload, built to offer the best performance at the lowest cost in the cloud

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 12, 2018

Oracle today announced availability of new bare metal Oracle Cloud Infrastructure compute instances to help enterprises run various performance sensitive workloads, such as artificial intelligence (AI) or engineering simulations, in the cloud. These new instances are part of Oracle’s new “Clustered Network,” which gives customers access to a low latency and high bandwidth RDMA network. Oracle now provides large organizations with a complete set of solutions for any high performance computing (HPC) workload, enabling businesses to capitalize on the benefits of modern cloud computing while enjoying performance comparable to on-premises compute clusters at a cost that makes sense for their businesses.

Countless enterprises have considered a transition to the cloud for years for their legacy HPC workloads, but were unable to do so due to the lack of high performant cloud offerings or economics that would make it too expensive to run in the cloud. Organizations have struggled to find a cloud that can support new workload requirements while realizing cost efficiencies and flexibility that meet business goals and overall technology vision. With today’s news, organizations finally have a low-cost path to extend their on-premises HPC workloads to the cloud without sacrificing performance.

“HPC has been underserved in the cloud due to lack of high performance networking (RDMA) and unappealing price/performance. We’ve listened to our customers and over the last few years Oracle has focused on improving high performance bare-metal offerings, such as Clustered Networking, to provide on-premise customers with the options they need to extend their HPC workloads to the cloud,” said Vinay Kumar, vice president, Product Management & Strategy, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “Our growing collaboration with trusted vendors helps Oracle Cloud Infrastructure continue to expand and offer the best performance at the lowest cost for the workloads that customers really need to extend into the cloud.”

With Oracle’s Clustered Network offering at the data center level, Oracle has opened up an entirely new set of use-cases and workloads that enterprises can harness the power of cloud computing for, ranging from car crash simulations in automotive and DNA sequencing in healthcare to reservoir simulation for oil exploration. Organizations can now deploy additional use-cases previously out of their reach, such as using data from their Oracle Database and cutting-edge NVIDIA(R) Tesla(R) GPUs to run Neural Network AI training and instantly adding value to their data.

The new offering is powered by high-frequency Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and Mellanox’s high performance network interface controllers. For more than 25 years, Oracle and Intel have worked closely to bring innovative, scalable, and secure enterprise-class solutions to its customers. This new addition completes Oracle’s comprehensive set of infrastructure solutions for the full range of both CPU- and NVIDIA GPU-based HPC workloads, providing customers with streamlined and lower cost access to specialized offerings in the cloud. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure now provides a complete range of HPC workloads, including the only bare metal Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering on the market with RDMA.

These new HPC instances with Clustered Networking are offered across Oracle regions in the US and EU at $0.075 per core hour, a 49 percent pay-as-you-go savings compared to other cloud providers on the market.

Additionally, these capabilities will also be expanded for Oracle’s recently announced support for NVIDIA HGX-2 platform on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Customers will be able to take advantage of clustered networking as part of the next generation of NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs, opening up large scale GPU workloads such as AI and deep learning.

Industry Quotes

“HPC is critical for more use cases, complex workloads, and data-intensive computing than ever before. Access to HPC capabilities in the cloud enables users to do more by extending into the public cloud while providing new HPC and AI users a platform to develop and test new classes of HPC and AI algorithms,” said Lisa Davis, vice president of Intel’s Data Center Group and General Manager of Digital Transformation and Scale Solutions. “We are working with Oracle to enable leading HPC offerings that take advantage of the advanced performance, efficiency and scale delivered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors across HPC and AI workloads, all while benefiting from the agility and flexibility of Oracle’s next generation, enterprise-grade cloud offering.”

“As organizations look to ensure they stay ahead of the competition, they are looking for more efficient services to enable higher performing workloads. This requires fast data communication between CPUs, GPUs and storage, in the cloud,” said Michael Kagan, CTO, Mellanox Technologies. “Over the past 10 years we have provided advanced RDMA enabled networking solutions to Oracle for a variety of its products and are pleased to extend this to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to help maximize performance and efficiency in the cloud.”

“With the massive explosion of data, you need larger clusters of GPUs to process and train the data being produced. HGX-2 on Oracle is the perfect fit for this problem,” said Ian Buck, vice president of Accelerated Computing, NVIDIA. “HGX-2 on Oracle combines cutting-edge V100 Tensor Core GPUs and NVSwitch along with ability to scale across multiple HGX-2s using Clustered Networking to solve the biggest computing challenges.”

Gonzaga University Gives Oracle Cloud an “A” for Cost and Efficiency

Thu, 2018-11-08 08:00
Press Release
Gonzaga University Gives Oracle Cloud an “A” for Cost and Efficiency Leading private university modernizes infrastructure with Oracle to securely support critical applications

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 8, 2018

Gonzaga University is using Oracle Cloud to streamline its operations and better serve its student and staff community. With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Database Cloud, the University has not only cut costs and reduced complexity but also upgraded to new versions of Ellucian and its ERP system in just seven months—all while improving security and reliability.

Ranked the fourth best regional university in the West for the fourth straight year by U.S. News & World Report, Gonzaga University is an exemplary learning community that educates students for lives of leadership and service for the common good. In keeping with its Catholic, Jesuit, and humanistic heritage and identity, Gonzaga models and expects excellence in academic and professional pursuits and intentionally develops the whole person—intellectually, spiritually, culturally, physically, and emotionally. When an aging IT infrastructure was struggling to support the University’s strategic goals, it knew it needed to rethink its approach.

“Achieving sustainable operations is one of the key tenets in Gonzaga’s strategic plan,” said Darren Owsley, Chief Technology Officer at Gonzaga. “Our existing IT infrastructure on premise would have required significant upgrades to support new technology moving forward as well as the applications that are critical to our operations today. After a competitive bid process, Oracle Cloud was the clear choice for what Gonzaga needed, both in price and performance.”

By moving its core functions to the cloud, Gonzaga was able to eliminate the need for time-consuming configurations and provision new servers in minutes versus weeks. This has dramatically improved efficiency, while also allowing for the acceleration of new projects. And with the ability to easily scale and pay for only the capacity it’s using, Gonzaga now has the cost-effective foundation it needs to grow well into the future. The University is also utilizing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for disaster recovery.

“At a recent event, other universities were lamenting about cloud projects that took years,” added Borre Ulrichsen, Chief Information Officer at Gonzaga. “With Oracle, our implementation through to production took mere months. Moreover, I know our database and server infrastructure is being continually upgraded and patched by Oracle, taking the burden off of our limited IT resources. This has allowed us to focus more time on strategic initiatives that better serve our students and staff and continue to help make Gonzaga one of the top universities in the West.”

“Gonzaga was looking for a partner that would provide support every step of the way during its transition to the cloud,” said Kash Iftikhar, vice president of product and strategy, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. “Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivers the reliability needed – at the lowest cost, and highest performance. We are honored to be working with such a highly-esteemed institution, and helping them focus on their mission, instead of infrastructure.”

Gonzaga was also recognized at OpenWorld 2018 as a winner of the Oracle Excellence Award for Oracle Cloud Platform Innovation, awarded to customers and partners who are using Oracle Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to accelerate innovation and drive business transformation by increasing agility, lowering costs and reducing IT complexity.

Leading Utilities Weather the Storm with Oracle

Thu, 2018-11-08 07:00
Press Release
Leading Utilities Weather the Storm with Oracle As weather volatility increases, customers look to Oracle Utilities to help maintain and restore power to millions

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 8, 2018

Severe weather events are increasing in both frequency and intensity. To help keep power available while supporting predictable restoration for millions of affected customers, the top utilities across the globe rely on the performance and dependability of Oracle Utilities Network Management System (NMS).

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, “In 2018 (as of October 9), there have been 11 weather and climate disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion each across the United States.” Likewise, a study by the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC) covered in Science Daily, noted that “extreme weather events have become more frequent over the past 36 years, with a significant uptick in floods and other hydrological events compared even with five years ago.”

When emergencies strike, utilities’ grid operations need to effectively respond to unplanned outages, integrate emergency and mutual-aid crews, and get accurate information to customers fast. Built from the ground-up as a fully-integrated outage and distribution management system, NMS gives utility operations teams accurate, timely, and reliable information critical for meeting the challenges of 21st-century grid operations. Today, more than 40 utility customers—including 6 of the top 9 utilities in the U.S.—depend on the industry-leading Oracle NMS platform in their control centers; several of which have the most demanding storm performance requirements in the industry. On the East Coast of the U.S. alone, power can be restored to 19.4 million customers faster thanks to Oracle NMS.

Customers rely on Oracle to navigate the storms

“The past three years has brought a relentless stream of hurricanes and storms, including Matthew, Irma and Michael,” said Josh Stallings, systems & standards manager, Georgia Power Company. “During each, Georgia Power Company was able to rely on Oracle NMS to bring order to an otherwise chaotic situation. In particular with Irma, which resulted in service interruptions for some 1,630,000 customers we had more than 425 concurrent users on NMS, allowing our operations staff to have a single valid source to monitor and understand what specific parts of the electrical distribution system were impacted, as well as validate the current state of various devices and equipment on the distribution system. The software also allowed us to perform meaningful customer communications ranging from broad-scale restoration targets down to event level communication for cases of trouble with repair crews onsite.”

“In Ireland, we are experiencing more extreme weather events each year,” said Robert Power, NMS system manager at ESB Networks. “Storm Darwin was a turning point in February 2014. The development team fully supported us implementing all required enhancement requests identified in the aftermath of this storm. Since going live with Oracle NMS in April 2017, the system has demonstrated exceptional performance for more than 150 users, coordinating and reporting on all outage activity. Hurricane Ophelia was our first real test, however, the intuitive and flexible nature of the application allowed us to configure storm rules, ETRs and UI as needed to reflect our unique user and system requirements to best manage the restoration effort.”

Oracle NMS: The calm before, during and after the storm

Based on 30 years of market experience, NMS leverages market-leading outage management technology with distribution management and advanced analytics to empower utilities to maximize grid operation capabilities, shorten outage duration and optimize distribution, all while keeping their customers engaged and informed. NMS reported outstanding performance during the recent hurricane season, which included Florence and Michael. Oracle is now working closely with its utility customers to brace for extreme weather on the horizon this winter, 15 of which serve more than 1 million customer meters each.

“While we previously viewed a catastrophic episode such as Katrina as a once in a lifetime event, they are fast becoming yearly occurrences,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager for Oracle Utilities. “As such, the technology to stabilize the world’s power grids and prepare them for uncharted weather territory needs to be equal parts cutting-edge and battle-tested. Oracle’s field-proven NMS system has enabled our customers to weather the most intense storms, helping maintain and restore power to millions. Utilities have enough to worry about during a major weather event, they will attest that our Network Management System isn’t one of them.”

Providing a “single-pane-of-glass” to maintain efficient grid operations, Oracle NMS presents the information control center operators need to effectively optimize the grid end-to-end from the substation to the end customer. Built on a data-centric, platform-based approach with integrated applications, Oracle NMS delivers unified user access to outage management (OMS), distribution management (DMS), distributed energy resource management (DERMS) as well as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Court Orders Rimini Street to Comply with Permanent Injunction Prohibiting Further Infringement

Wed, 2018-11-07 15:25
Press Release
Court Orders Rimini Street to Comply with Permanent Injunction Prohibiting Further Infringement

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 7, 2018

On Monday, a federal appeals court rejected Rimini Street’s motion to stay and effectively delay a permanent injunction issued by the Federal District Court in Nevada. That injunction prohibits Rimini Street from engaging in specific unlawful practices in connection with its core business practices as found in Oracle’s 2015 copyright infringement trial against Rimini Street and its founder, Seth Ravin.

The trial court had determined earlier that the more than $100 million that Rimini Street paid to Oracle in damages following trial was inadequate to fully compensate Oracle for Rimini Street’s copyright infringement, citing “Rimini Street’s conscious disregard for Oracle’s software copyrights” and the fact that Rimini Street’s business model “was built entirely on its infringement of Oracle’s copyrighted software.” The Court ruled that Rimini Street can only provide support for Oracle’s PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, Siebel, and Database software subject to certain court-mandated restrictions, as set forth in the injunction.

While Rimini Street made public statements suggesting that it can comply with the injunction without changing its business model, it told the federal appeals court a different story in court filings. Rimini Street instead argued that the “injunction goes far beyond the changes that Rimini Street [already] made in response” to the Nevada court’s rulings, and would therefore harm its business. Rimini Street must now comply with all the terms of the injunction while its latest appeal is pending.

“We are grateful that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied Rimini Street’s latest attempt to delay justice. The federal courts in this country have appropriately recognized that the only way to stop serial infringers such as Rimini Street is to subject them to detailed, court-ordered prohibitions against unlawful practices and subject them to contempt of court penalties for any breach. Oracle will continue to be unrelenting in its mission to stop the infringement of its intellectual property rights,” said Dorian Daley, Oracle’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

Oracle Data Cloud Launches ‘Pre-Bid by Moat’ to Help Marketers Identify Brand Safe, Fraud Safe, and Viewable Ad Inventory

Tue, 2018-11-06 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Data Cloud Launches ‘Pre-Bid by Moat’ to Help Marketers Identify Brand Safe, Fraud Safe, and Viewable Ad Inventory Pre-Bid by Moat Will Be Integrated with Top DSPs Including Adobe Advertising Cloud, Amobee, Basis by Centro, dataxu, MediaMath, The Trade Desk, and VideoAmp

Redwood City, Calif.—Nov 6, 2018

Oracle Data Cloud today announced Pre-Bid by Moat, a placement solution for marketers to identify and utilize ad inventory that meets their high standards for third-party viewability and invalid traffic (IVT). These new capabilities will join existing brand safety segments available through Oracle Data Cloud to create a powerful suite of media spend protection offerings. To make implementation seamless and simple, Pre-Bid by Moat will be integrated with top DSPs, including Adobe Advertising Cloud, Amobee, Basis by Centro, dataxu, MediaMath, The Trade Desk, and VideoAmp.

“Savvy marketers recognize the tremendous financial and reputational risks from misplaced advertising,” said Eric Roza, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Data Cloud. “Fraud and viewability issues can drain your ad spend and damage your results, while association with offensive or inappropriate content can result in lasting brand damage. Oracle’s Pre-Bid by Moat offers a unified solution to protect media spend for advertisers by bringing together powerful tools to set real-time requirements for viewability, invalid traffic, and brand safety.”

Pre-Bid by Moat helps advertisers to optimize their media buys with:

  • Granular Viewability Standards. Pre-Bid by Moat will allow marketers to set viewability rates for specific ad slots and sizes, offering unprecedented precision before placement.
  • Invalid Traffic Avoidance. Pre-Bid by Moat is powered by Moat’s leading IVT measurement technology. Moat’s IVT solutions also benefit from learnings from Oracle’s other anti-fraud acquisitions, including web security and managed DNS from Oracle Dyn, which helps identify abnormal traffic patterns on the web and detect and block malicious non-human traffic.
  • Contextual Brand Safety Analysis. Using the contextual intelligence platform from its Grapeshot acquisition, Oracle Data Cloud analyzes and interprets the actual content of each web page, not just its URL-level keywords.

“The growth of digital advertising over the past decade has been staggering. In order to sustain that growth in the years to come, marketers must trust the effectiveness of the media they purchase,” said Lewis Rothkopf, general manager of media and growth channels, MediaMath. “We’re excited to be one of the first to make Moat’s first-in-class ad measurement actionable for media buyers. We’re confident this collaboration will help advertisers reduce waste and protect consumer trust.”

“Some brand safety solutions ask websites and apps to grade their own homework through self-reported URL keywords describing the content on their sites,” said Patrick Jones, group vice president and general manager, partnerships, Oracle Data Cloud. “Our contextual intelligence platform reviews and classifies billions of pages and apps with language-based algorithms, so we can categorize the content of each page as safe and brand-appropriate. By integrating that brand safety with our leading IVT and viewability tools, Pre-Bid by Moat gives marketers confidence that their ads are reaching real people, viewable, and appearing in brand-safe environments.”

Oracle Empowers Global Retailers to Streamline Omnichannel Complexity

Tue, 2018-11-06 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Empowers Global Retailers to Streamline Omnichannel Complexity Better Inventory Visibility and Integration Across Transactions Enables Retailers to Improve Customer Experiences and Loyalty

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 6, 2018

Recent enhancements to Oracle Retail Order Management System Cloud Service provide retailers with real-time visibility into inventory and customer activity throughout the transaction lifecycle, helping brands navigate omnichannel fulfillment complexity. By integrating all aspects of the transaction lifecycle across all channels and points of service, retailers open a wealth of opportunities to increase revenue, enhance customer loyalty, streamline operations, reduce markdowns, and cut costs.

Oracle Retail Order Management System Cloud Service integrates with Oracle Retail Order Broker Cloud Service to manage not only order creation, tracking, and payment but also the steps of the fulfillment process. The Oracle Retail Order Management Cloud Service unifies order maintenance, customer notifications, contact center, and payment settlements, while Oracle Retail Order Broker Cloud Service handles enterprise inventory, the routing engine, drop shipments, and the store connection for the associates.

“Oracle's OMS utilizes its Intelligent Order Routing to allow routing engines to make decisions as to the most profitable location to fulfill an order from while satisfying customers' requirement and still satisfying margin/profitability calculations via Order Broker,” said Victoria Brown, Research Manager, Global Supply Chain Strategy & Execution, IDC. “Oracle's users have found the system to have a tremendous speed to ROI and appreciate the speed to go live from the ease of configuration on the cloud.”

“Oracle Retail is honored to serve as a strategic partner that helps a global community prepare for the next wave of omnichannel innovation,” said Jeff Warren, Vice President Solutions and Strategy, Oracle Retail. “By providing our customers with an enterprise view of inventory and order across our omnichannel suite of solutions, brands are able to create new business standards that enhance customer loyalty, streamline operations and maximize profitability.”

Oracle Retail Delivers a Prescriptive Approach to Order Management
  • Open Integration: In addition to pre-integration between Order Management and solutions within the Oracle portfolio, including with POS, CRM and ecommerce offerings, which work cohesively and solve end-to-end supply chain needs, open integration allows other third-party systems to handle the necessary business flows.
  • User Experience: A modern contact center with a streamlined workflow allows a quick and easy way for customer service reps to leverage customer information more effectively throughout the transaction and as part of their marketing, merchandising, and customer service efforts.
  • Globalization: To support global retailers, the introduction of language translation and fiscal requirements enables users in new markets. With these enhancements, we can empower contact center agents in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
  • Modern Payments: The addition of a payment extension layer eases the integration with providers. A secure integration with Oracle Retail Customer Engagement for our gift card integration allows retailers to take advantage of additional features that are offered.

“The modern user experience present in Oracle Retail Order Management System Cloud Service empowers contact center agents to provide more thoughtful service by serving up all relevant information in a single, highly useable panel,” said Chris Sarne, Senior Director, Oracle Retail. “Visibility into order tracking and inventory location for service associates is critical to encourage customer loyalty as the omnichannel environment for retailers becomes more complex.”

Yamamay Turns to Oracle Retail to Uncover Inventory Performance Insights, Localize Inventory and Optimize Margins

Mon, 2018-11-05 10:00
Press Release
Yamamay Turns to Oracle Retail to Uncover Inventory Performance Insights, Localize Inventory and Optimize Margins Top Italian Clothing Brand Deploys Oracle Retail Solutions Across Growing EMEA Footprint

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Nov 5, 2018

Leading Italian brand Yamamay, a part of Pianoforte Group, has invested in and deployed an Oracle Retail suite of solutions to help support its long-term global growth strategy.  The retailer has implemented Oracle Retail Merchandising Financial Planning, Oracle Retail Assortment Planning and Oracle Retail Xstore Point-of-Service solutions to localize offerings and personalize the customer experience as it expands the brand beyond an existing footprint of 680 franchise and owned stores in 39 countries across Europe and the Middle East.

In a hyper-competitive market, Yamamay sought to deliver a faster sell-through of goods, drive more significant insight into customer preferences and inspire management to adapt to local market demands as the company continues to add new locations. By more effectively analyzing customer behavior with Oracle Retail technology, Yamamay empowers their planning team to create more localized assortments, and execute strategies to more closely match supply and demand to help optimize revenue and maximize margins.

“Yamamay is pleased to extend the relationship with Oracle.  Yamamay selected a suite of world-class retail solutions to enhance its retail business operational excellence and productivity,” said Roberto Villa, Chief Information Officer, Yamamay. “The Oracle Retail suite offers a vast choice of solutions that will boost Yamamay’s capability to interact with its loyalty-driven customers worldwide effectively. Oracle provides us with the strategic planning system that delivers immediate value and will scale to run our business.”

“In our 2018 consumer research study The New Topography of Retail, we discovered that 72% of European consumers think knowledgeable in-store staff are important to their brand experience. A satisfying brand experience begins with smarter decisions in planning the assortment to executing flawlessly in store,” said Chris James, Vice President of EMEA, Oracle Retail. “Yamamay understands the importance of delivering the right inventory to the right customer from planning through the transaction. We are pleased they chose Oracle Retail to empower their planners and associates.”

Due to the strategic importance of this investment, Yamamay branded their transformational initiative “Project Retail Evolution” around the imperatives of the assortment planning, the product collection and the retail experience. The brand began with the implementation of Oracle Retail Merchandise Financial Planning to gain control of the financial plan and strengthen the Open to Buy (OTB) process and systems and followed with the implementation of Oracle Retail Assortment Planning to reduce the number of SKUs per collection while opening new product streams in the product collection. Yamamay will also use these inventory insights to revise shop clustering strategy to improve their assortment and exposure.

Medical School Cuts Costs with Oracle Cloud

Thu, 2018-11-01 07:00
Press Release
Medical School Cuts Costs with Oracle Cloud In just months, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine modernizes systems, bolsters security, and saves $50,000 using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

EDUCAUSE, Denver, CO—Nov 1, 2018

To better optimize its resources and serve its students, faculty and staff, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) is using Oracle Cloud. With a complete, unified platform, the school can now ensure secure, dynamic management of its operations and deliver a highly engaging and efficient experience to students and staff alike. Since launching the new platform just months ago, WVSOM has already cut operational costs by approximately $50,000.

WVSOM is a leader in educating osteopathic physicians for primary care medicine in rural areas. It prides itself on being at the intersection of technology and medicine, combining a human touch with cutting-edge medical technology to produce the best educated, most caring and compassionate osteopathic physicians in the world. Nationally recognized for its efforts, the medical school knew it needed to invest in the latest IT technology to best position the school for overall success. Further, the school also recognized the importance of delivering a modern, personalized, experience to its technologically savvy students and staff. After evaluating several solutions, WVSOM selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, due to its competitive pricing – more than one-third the cost of other providers—and for the platform’s advanced security benefits.

“As a medical school focused on educating our students on cutting-edge medical technologies, WVSOM saw the importance of enhancing the experience of our students and staff by also investing in advanced technology across all school functions,” said Kim Ransom, Chief Technology Officer at WVSOM. “With Oracle Cloud, WVSOM was not only able to quickly implement the latest in enterprise technology, but we also had the peace of mind knowing that we were doing so with the level of security and cost efficiency that is critical to running our school.”

Critical to the success of the project was Oracle Cloud’s ability to work with WVSOM’s existing investment in Ellucian Banner. Today, the system is comprised of two primary components including a self-service module for students, staff and faculty and an administrative module to holistically manage the school’s operational functions including HR, accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial aid and admissions.

“Universities big and small are faced with a unique challenge – students that understand and expect personalized, seamless experiences enabled by technology while still having to operate on limited budgets and resources,” said Pat Mungovan Oracle’s group vice president of Higher Education and Research. “Oracle Cloud is empowering WVSOM with enterprise-grade technologies to meet the needs of its entire school community, all while keeping its focus on remaining one of the top medical schools in the country.”

Oracle Student Cloud Delivers First Complete Student Lifecycle Platform

Tue, 2018-10-30 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Student Cloud Delivers First Complete Student Lifecycle Platform New cloud enhancements wrap financial planning, other services into one solution

EDUCAUSE, Denver, CO—Oct 30, 2018

embedBrightcove('responsive', false, 'single', '5850956439001');

Watch Mark Hurd discuss the impact of Student Cloud

Built from the ground-up to be flexible, insightful, and singularly focused on delivering an exceptional student experience, Oracle announced the latest release of its Oracle Student Cloud suite of products, including Student Management, focused on support for traditional programs. Oracle is also announcing integration for Campus Solutions customers to Oracle Student Financial Planning, a student-centric, cloud-based financial aid solution within Oracle Student Cloud. Oracle Student Cloud’s engagement and advanced analytics capabilities together with critical transactional processes free institutions to create and deliver bold new programs and transform existing ones to better align with the student’s educational goals and achievements.

A modern student system drives student success across the entire educational journey. Yet many universities are hindered by legacy student-information-systems (SIS) that are unable, architecturally, to support non-traditional educational experiences, such as non-credit courses, competency-based programs, and self-paced study, alongside traditional degree programs. With Oracle Student Cloud, institutions can now manage both traditional and non-traditional programs on a single platform, enabling true student lifecycle management. In addition, programs can be offered and financial aid processed without the constraint of a single academic calendar, further unlocking the flexibility and variety of programs available to students.

“Oracle is building Student Cloud not as a solely transactional ‘student-information-system’ but as a true ‘student system,’” said Joyce Kim, analyst, Ovum. “While this might seem like semantics, such messaging ruptures traditional boundaries to support much of the student lifecycle, from recruiting all the way to alumni relations.”

“Central State University has always prioritized equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills and dispositions for advanced studies and careers through efficient and effective institutional operations,” said Tonjia Coverdale, Ph.D., vice president for Information Technology and CIO at Central State University. “Oracle Student Cloud will help us offer our students an expanded array of educational programs including immersive, online programs to foster academic success for our students while optimizing university operations.”

“Today’s student expects institutions to support a journey of lifelong learning, including traditional and degree programs and a diverse array of continuing education events,” said Vivian Wong, group vice president of Higher Education Development at Oracle. “With the latest release, Oracle Student Cloud takes a giant leap forward delivering an educational experience focused on the student and one that promotes overall student success.”

With student loan debt in the US reaching $1.5 trillion, universities are working to help drive more responsible student borrowing and support better course planning. Student Financial Planning frees universities to spend more time advising students on their financial aid choices and less time packaging their aid. Real-time synchronization with government systems and automated, student-centric processes have already made it possible for Student FinancialPlanning to process $2.9 billion in financial aid, representing 15 million automated packages to date.

Supporting a variety of academic models, Oracle Student Financial Planning with advanced automated technologies enables:

  • Comprehensive fund management
  • Calculated and repackaged student financial aid based on pre-set triggers
  • Optimization of both private and public funding sources based on student financing requirements
  • Reduction of time and resources spent on supporting manual processes
  • Reduced complexity of annual audits and compliance risk

With pre-built Student Financial Planning integration for Campus Solutions, universities can take advantage of these powerful capabilities more easily while simultaneously taking their first step to Oracle Student Cloud.

Oracle’s technology and solutions support more than 11,000 education and research institutions around the world in addition to a full suite of cloud-based applications including Student Cloud,  Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Human Capital Management (HCM) as well as Infrastructure, Data and Platform as a Service.

Oracle Named a Leader in 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems

Mon, 2018-10-29 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Named a Leader in 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems Oracle Database also ranks first in all four use cases of Gartner Critical Capabilities for Operational Database Management Systems report

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Oct 29, 2018

Oracle today announced that it has been recognized in two recent Gartner database-focused reports. Oracle was named a Leader in Gartner’s 2018 “Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems” report1 and was ranked first in all four use cases of the 2018 Gartner “Critical Capabilities for Operational Database Management Systems” report2. Included in both reports, the self-driving Oracle Autonomous Database eliminates complexity, human error, and manual management to enable higher reliability, security, and more operational efficiency.

“We believe that our placement in the reports is recognition of Oracle’s continued leadership in the database market, a result of our ongoing commitment to database technology,” said Andrew Mendelsohn, Executive Vice President Database Server Technologies, Oracle. “Our latest innovation, Oracle Autonomous Database, provides organizations with a self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing database to help run all workloads in the cloud with low risk and low cost.”

In naming Oracle a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems, Gartner cited Oracle’s vision in cloud innovation led by the introduction of Oracle Autonomous Database. For the Gartner Operational Database Management Systems Critical Capabilities report, the firm evaluated vendor products’ ability to support four core operational database use cases (workloads): traditional transactions, operational and analytics convergence, distributed variable data, and event processing/data in motion. Gartner ranked Oracle (Oracle Database) number one in all four of these use cases.

Oracle Autonomous Database consists of Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing optimized for running transactions and mixed workloads and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for running analytic database workloads. Both flavors of autonomous database offer self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing capabilities that can automatically discover threats and remediate them while the database is running. These capabilities along with high elasticity and exceptional performance enable customers to run all their Oracle databases in the cloud with unprecedented availability, performance, and security—at a significantly lower cost.

California Community Colleges Modernize with Oracle Cloud

Fri, 2018-10-26 07:00
Press Release
California Community Colleges Modernize with Oracle Cloud San Joaquin Delta College and San Bernardino Community College District use Oracle Cloud Apps to save money, boost student services

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Oct 26, 2018

To streamline overall operations and campus experiences, California community colleges, San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) and San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC) are using Oracle Cloud Applications. The depth and breadth of Oracle cloud solutions are helping the colleges transform and standardize business systems to drive sustainable cost reductions, provide greater insights through real-time analytics and improve overall services for students, faculty, staff and vendors.

Faced with the challenge of tightening public funding coupled with an influx of students, California community college administrators are under increased pressure to stretch available resources to serve the needs of their constituents. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, funding for public two- and four-year colleges is nearly $10 billion below what it was just prior to the recession. Cloud-based technologies have enabled organizations across a variety of industries to address similar resource challenges while continuing to deliver innovative new services and build the foundation for a modern infrastructure to support evolving needs.

“Like many business enterprises, higher education institutions navigate a complex environment of financial, political, and community based factors to achieve optimal success in running their organizations,” said Keith Rajecki, senior director, Oracle Higher Education . “Oracle cloud solutions deliver proven, enterprise-grade tools to empower community colleges to effectively deliver enhanced higher education experience for students, faculty and employees while increasing productivity and efficiency across their colleges.”

San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD)

“San Bernardino Community College District is proud to be a leader in making technological improvements and innovative changes that make our public dollars work harder for local students and Oracle ERP Cloud is central in these efforts,” said Jose Torres, executive vice chancellor at the San Bernardino Community College District.

SBCCD, serves 24,000 students through Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College in Inland Southern California. As a champion for affordable, high-quality education and career training, SBCCD wanted to ensure the college district was well positioned to serve the needs of its entire campus community with the overall goal of declaring fiscal independence from the county. The college district recognized a modern financial platform was critical to that mission. Following a competitive RFP process, SBCCD became the first California community college to select Oracle ERP Cloud to provide improved reporting capabilities across all college functions and deliver the necessary insights to make informed decisions.

San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC)

“San Joaquin Delta College has always been committed to providing students with the innovative, high-quality education, and training necessary for 21st-century careers. Yet, legacy systems greatly hindered that mission,” said Gerardo Calderón, MLIS, vice president of Operations, San Joaquin Delta College. “By choosing Oracle Cloud Applications SJDC is taking advantage of integrated functionality that empowers students to achieve their educational goals. Operationally, SJDC is looking forward to improve service delivery through workflows, real-time transactions processing and reporting and better decision making.”

Based in Stockton, Calif., SJDC serves 22,000 students and was eager to replace a variety of legacy systems including a 20-year-old homegrown student information system. The college selected Oracle ERP Cloud, Oracle HCM Cloud , Oracle Student Cloud  and Oracle Campus Solutions  with the goals of:

  • Streamlining business processes across all college operations
  • Improving student and college staff productivity through web and mobile-enabled applications
  • Improving access to real-time data with actionable analytical insights
  • Increasing responsiveness to state, federal and internal reporting requirements
  • Reducing the number of costly, disparate systems that no longer support the college’s needs

SuiteConnect West—San Francisco, Calif.—Oct 25, 2018

The latest innovations from NetSuite help organizations adapt to these changes and successfully grow and scale.

“For many entrepreneurs and business owners it can often feel as though the only constant is change, but there are many things that have stayed the same including the mandate for growth,” said Evan Goldberg, executive vice president of development, Oracle NetSuite. “We work with thousands of organizations from different industries to help them stay focused on successfully growing and scaling their business amidst all of the change. This gives us a unique understanding of businesses across all sectors and we use those insights to continually enhance the NetSuite platform.”
