Hello, I am trying to connect to an old remote db (v. 8.1.5). With tnsping I succeed without problems, with any oracle client I get the message: ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found; product RDBMS80; facility=ORA. The remote db has been recently moved to a new server, with a different name but the same ip. Could this be the cause of the problem? What can I do? Thank you very much

Yes that is the problem. When you change the name of a server/host you need to follow the procedure for cloning a database.
