Hello,

We were running Oracle 8.1.6 on HP-UX 11.0. Due to some restoration problem, we had to re-install HP-UX 11.0. Oracle installation is as it was except user permissions which was also restored to the previous.
But now when I try to startup Oracle from svrmgrl, it gives an error like : ora 27146 post/wait initialization failed.
The documentation says that it is because 'OS System Call Failed'.
Please help. It is very URGENT.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure all files in the $ORACLE_HOME tree are set to the correct owner/group. Have you restored the initSID.ora file to the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory or created a link. Is the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle executable set correctly ( -rwsr-s--x ). Have you applied all required patches. Do you have a password file. Are using the same system file for you kernal parameters. There are a lot of things that can go wrong; keep looking!

Hello,

We ultimately found the problem in memory constraint. The amount of free memory didn't permit Oracle to start up with the initialization parameters which were given in init<SID>.ora file. So we reduced the the value for shared_pool_size and large_pool_size and tried. And it was successful.
Thanks for the help
