My database was created as NOARCHIVELOG. The LOGGING option on individual tables is selected. Is it true that no logging is happening as long as NOARCHIVELOG is set?

No. It is not true. The two events are not linked in any way.

To clarify this issue and learn more about LOGGING/NOLOGGING option read This Information

Hope that helps,

Hello Eddy,

Archieving is a process where ARCH background process makes copies of Redo Log files at a loction specified in the parameter file,it may be a different hard disk or even a Tape drive.

While loging is a complete different process where LGWR is writing the redo log files.

Hence in NoArchieveLog Mode, the ARCH process is not making copies, but LGWR is still doing its work, and logging is taking place.

Regards,

Vikas.
