SVRMGR>### Version of Clustering software: ###
compaq tru64 5.1
Oracle OPS 8.1.7 software is installed but we do not want to use it at this
moment.

Cannot find anything on metalink.
Do you have any suggestions, it seems to be a privilege error.
Thanks Wim

I appears you are starting the database with a user that is not the owner of oracle files or the user you are using is not in the DBA group.

may be this can help you
IF db is running under UNIX/solaris
Increase your kernel parameters , specifically the semaphore
related parameters such as SEMMNI,SEMMNS,SEMMSL.
OR
Decrease the processes value in the init.ora
setsession parameter in init.ora to lower value
is the OPS option has been installed by default after the application of patch?
if so, Disable those

Disable the parallel server option
Disable the shared mode option
Relink all options that has been installed

Oracle does something like a uname -a for the nodename and in this case the node name was 32 characters long (1 too long) with this nodename it checks in the hosts file if the nodename does exist but a nodename with one character missing does not exist. So the work around is create an alias for the node name with the last character missing..... ha ha. Or change the node name in a shorten name....
