I have totally lost my oracle implementation due to a hard drive failure. I was able to recover my datafiles from an existing backup, however no other files were saved. If I rebuild the server and put a new installation of Oracle, will I be able to retrieve the information found in my old datafiles? If so how would one go about doing so. I have little too no experience with oracle.....

Thanks for your help.

Dan

Depending of your backup.
You should reinstall Oracle. Restore your backup ( HOT BACKUP ? COLD BACKUP ? EXPORT ??? ). If you have all the files ( CTL, INIT, DATAFILES etc ... ). You can reopen your database.
