Hi,
I had the same problem with Oracle 8.1.7 EE on
SuSE Linux 7.1. There is a small RPM orarun8i.rpm
to adjust shared mem. The first time I had forgotten
to use it via "/etc/init.d/oracle start" and then
got ORA-01033 when connecting as system/manager and
a lot of ORA-00600 from the cat* scripts.
So I dropped the DB (maybe was not necessary),
ran "/etc/init.d/oracle start" and created my
DB again. After that I'm fine with system/manager ...
