Hi,
we are just porting our app from Oracle 8 to MS SQL2000 at this time. There is a porting guidelines document on Microsoft website which has about hundred pages.
Just briefly list of shortcomings of SQL server (I am a long time Oracle Developer/DBA and have to say I'm reasonably happy with Oracle)
- limit of 8kB per row in table unless you use special lob datatypes such as text,
- no sequences,
- no tablespaces,
- no rollback segments,
- can not update primary key in table if it is autonumbered column
- have problems with changing "not null" columns to "null"

Overall I'm very dissapointed with SQL Server 2000. It is not fullfeatured and also choice of platform it is running is very limiting. I do not know how it behaves in prodction enviroment. I've been working with for about 4 weeks now.
I'm open to discussion as my experience is very limited.
Radek
