Hi,
I posted this before. Maybe I didn't clear things up. OUr database is in archive log mode. Should we shutdown the database before the archive logs are backed up everyday/week?? Otherwise what happens if the log is being used when the backup of the logs is happening?

No..you do not have to shutdown the database to backup the "archived logs". Archived logs will be used by the Oracle only during media recovery.
Never try to backup the online redo log files. If you backup online redo logs, these logs may cause corruption during recovery.
