Connecting to oracle 7.1 database from sqlplus 3.3 and forms6i [message #53795]

Hi,
I am facing problem to connect to Oracle 7.1 database from forms 6i. It not going through TNSNAME, HOSTNAME. I have tried both. I am not able to connect from sqlplus 3.3. also.Can anybody tell me about this, how to resolve?

if the database is local ( in the same machine)
no need to give hoststring.
else if database is remote,
configure ur tnsnames.ora

i am working with oracle 7.1 on sco unix platform . i want to connect the database but it gives me error of TCP/IP adapter . I am in real problem pls give me help if you have TCP/IP adapter patch then send to me
