Dear Sir,

I have a database running with the name joe and there are around 200 users who are connected to it. Now i want to change the database name, how can i change the database name so that it will no effect the server much

Joe,
You could consider just adding a new database service name into the tnsnames.ora file on the client computeres. Here is an example file:

For this example, you could take the top entry which is PROD1, copy the service name entry, and use this info to create a new service name which the new name you want to use. Then you could switch your users over to using the new service name gradually so that they suffer no downtime.
