Hi All,

On Friday last week we lost a datafile. We tried to restore this datafile from backup, however the tape from the most recent backup has errors, so the datafile was unrecoverable.

Is there a way we can recover the datafile from the logs?

We can obviously try and restore the datafile from the backup previous to the one we tried, however this is going back two weeks and a lot of processing has taken place since.

We are using Oracle 8.1.7.4 running on SUN Unix.

Thanks for your help!

Dear Rich,

Are you running on Archieve Log Mode ????

If yes then its possible.
1. Shut Down (Take a cold backup)
2. Copy the valid datafile(for the lost one only)
3. Start Up and apply the logs Oracle asks for.

Regards,

Vikas Gupta.
