I'm following the installtion procedures found on the Oracle website.

I've got to the part of the process found here.
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/A96167_01/pre.htm#CHDHDABJ

It requires me to (step 9), "9. Write a script to initialize these values during system startup, and include the script in your system init files."

Can someone help me locate these init files? I can't find the necessary init files and have no idea where to begin looking.

Thanks.
