Hi friends !

I am new to linux.I like to practice basic commands with the help of ubuntu c.d. I m accessing from the c.d.itself.

in the command prompt it shows

ubuntu@ubuntu : ~$ ____________(i applied root here)
it shows -bash:root:command not found

and i like 2 create a new directory & view the root,
what command i suppose 2 apply. I dont know the root password also.what is the solution,pls reply, its urgent.

What is the problem here?
I do not understand what you are trying to do here.

Hi mahesh

Thanks for ur response.

my query is

1. I dont know the password for the root.
2. I dont know how to create directory, if i apply mkdir
<dirname> it shows error message.
3. If i applied ksh it shows error stating -bash:ksh:command
not found
4. Is there any particular command for accessing? HOw to
practice the basic commands?

Why not just install cygwin in your windows pc and try?
I prefer installing the software and doing it properly.
Check this cool application
http://junix.kzn.ru/unix/unix.htm

You will be prompted for an unix account and password.
Supply whatever you want.
Start playing. Gives you a unix look and feel environment

Get a book/tutorial.
Just google for unix tutorials.
You will get a lot of leads.

hi
There is no root concept in ubuntu use sudo for executing command as root

ex: sudo mkdir

root password = u first user password

its better if u know the root password
because there are so many command wich only root user means super user can acces..

tell me what error u r getting when u run
mkdir <sarb>
????
please let me know the result
